How is preschool different to childcare?

There are a range of different models of early education and care services.

All children’s services in NSW have  high standards. Licensing regulations demand that both preschools and long day care centres have to employ a university qualified teacher if they cater for more than 29 children. Because of this, long day care centres often run preschool programs for children aged between the age of three and five years.

For many parents, the type of ownership of the service they choose for their child is important. Community-based preschools offer re-assurance that all income is invested in resourcing the centre for the children. Long day care services can be community-based not-for-profit or privately owned where owners stand to financially benefit.

Many long day care services meet the needs of families. Consider available information carefully to ensure you choose the right service to meet your family’s needs.
